Discussion:
Diablo III Launcher window: error 404

Hi there,

When starting Diablo 3, the Launcher window appears.

When I click any link inside that window (usually linking to a forum
post), the original picture remains, but in black, top-left corner, an
Error: 404 is added.

After that, no links work anymore. Apparently Blizzard runs some kind of
mini-browser in that window.

The Play button does work; Diablo 3 starts up as usual.

This has not been working for several weeks now, and I have already
Googled for it; that gave some hints as to deleted some
Agent/Launcher/etc related files. Did that, no change.

Did anyone here ran into this before, and what was your solution?

Regards,

Patrick.

Are you talking about the "classic diablo launcher" or the new "battle.net
integrated launcher"?

I've switched to the new integrated launcher (taking care of updates to WoW,
SC2 and D3 including the possibility to launch the game from there) a few
months ago.

Clicking any of the links in that open a separate browser window and all
works fine. As far as I can see, this has replaced the individual launchers
of the three games, so I can't even check if the behaviour is the same as
you describe.

Err, how do I see the difference? The info the launcher displays looks
very much Diablo 3 specific. Also, I do not own any other battle.net
games.

I tried it again yesterday-evening, and one link I clicekd did open up
an Internet Explorer window showing the forum. When, however, clicking
the Loot 2.0 discussion link, a barely readable 'error 404' message
appears in the window.

I will see if I can update the launcher manually.

Currently running the Battle.net beta launcher. This fixed the problem I
mentioned above. More or less. Because the new launcher does not offer
the links which the original Diablo III launcher offers. :)

Oh well. Now at least I can't get irritated by non-working links because
they're no longer there. :)

Ciao, Patrick.

I take it that this answers your question in the earlier post :-)

Oops. Sorry, didn't realise that the links offered in the two launchers
differ.

Neither did I, but it was only something which nagged me, not something
I was terribly bothered by.
